Pathways for Professional Programs
As the body that approves programs offered by Indigenous Institutes, IAESC recognizes the need for the development of additional pathways for professional recognition of certain programs. Many professional programs have regulatory bodies that represent and regulate that specific profession, approve programs of education, or require an accreditation component with external accrediting bodies. This could include nursing, social work, social service work, teaching, midwifery and more.
IAESC is honoured to work with partner organizations in the development of various pathway options for the recognition and accreditation of programs at Indigenous Institutes.
Established Pathways:
- Early Childhood Education Diploma – College of Early Childhood Education (CECE)
- Social Service Worker Diploma – Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OSCSWSSW)
- Health Sciences Bachelor’s Degree in Indigenous Midwifery – College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO).
- Bachelor of Education/Certificate of Education – Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
These pathways demonstrate that the relevant regulatory or accrediting body has recognized IAESC and our quality assurance processes in program approval OR have collaborated with IAESC to work on a program approval pathway.
IAESC is currently engaged in additional pathway work and those processes are in development.
What does this mean for learners at Indigenous Institutes?
This means that each of the above-mentioned programs have a unique pathway for program approval that create program application efficiencies and reflect the distinct standards and requirements needed to be recognized by the professional regulatory or accrediting body.
Indigenous Institutes who anticipate initiating a program application in any of the above -mentioned programs are asked to reach out to IAESC for further information and to use the specialized handbooks and program application templates that have been developed.
We kindly ask that Indigenous Institutes contact IAESC as early as possible if a program is being developed that will have a regulatory/accreditation element to it. This will allow IAESC to develop a relationship with the relevant organization and collaborate with them to develop the pathway for the new program application.
