Indigenous Advanced Education & Skills Council

Applications

The quality assurance model first begins with an Organization Review, once approved, Institutes can then submit Program Applications.

Quality Assurance Framework

Each application involves an in-depth assessment against the applicable standards and benchmarks for the application type. The standards and benchmarks were developed to be mindful of the different worldviews and needs of Indigenous communities.

The standards and benchmarks were developed over time through extensive research, engagement with expert panels, and engagement with the Indigenous Institutes. The standards and benchmarks are identified in each of our handbooks.

Submit an Application

Each application undergoes various quality assurance steps prior to being approved. Applications are submitted through IAESC’s secure application portal.

Indigenous Institutes Quality Assessment Board (IIQAB)

IIQAB is the quality assurance committee responsible for the review and approval of applications from the Indigenous Institutes. IIQAB ensures that each application meets or exceeds the criteria defined within the standards and benchmarks established for each application type.

IIQAB ensures that its assessment is fair, transparent and based on objective criteria, consistent with high ethical and procedural standards. The interests of Indigenous students and their communities are always prioritized when assessing any application, acknowledging the diverse worldviews, knowledge, culture and language of each community.

IIQAB members are post-secondary experts and knowledge keepers who represent the diversity of Indigenous communities across Ontario. IIQAB is governed by its Terms of Reference. IIQAB meets quarterly through virtual meetings.
