Indigenous Leadership

As an Indigenous-led and governed Organization, IAESC strives to ensure that those who lead and govern IAESC’s strategic priorities and quality assurance approvals, bring a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to the success and well-being of Indigenous learners. From knowledge keepers to language speakers, working or retured professionals, each individual on IAESC’s Board of Directors and the Indigenous Institutes Quality Assessment Board carry with them a passion for the advancement of Indigenous post-secondary education.

Board of Directors

The IAESC Board of Directors is committed to advancing Indigenous post-secondary education and provides strategic direction to IAESC.
Each member of the Board of Directors brings their own unique bundle of knowledge, gifts and lived experiences. Each of IAESC’s Board members are Indigenous professionals, with a diverse range of background and education, from knowledge keepers to academics to community leaders. The Board consists of a maximum of 9 Directors and Directors are re-appointed annually.

Indigenous Institutes Quality Assessment Board (IIQAB)

IIQAB is the quality assurance committee responsible for the review and approval of applications from the Indigenous Institutes. IIQAB ensures that each application meets or exceeds the criteria defined within the standards and benchmarks established for each application type.

IIQAB ensures that its assessment is fair, transparent and based on objective criteria, consistent with high ethical and procedural standards. The interests of Indigenous students and their communities are always prioritized when assessing any application, acknowledging the diverse worldviews, knowledge, culture and language of each community.

IIQAB members are post-secondary experts and knowledge keepers who represent the diversity of Indigenous communities across Ontario. IIQAB is governed by its Terms of Reference. IIQAB meets quarterly through virtual meetings.
